A long weekend in Lower Zambezi National Park
With a free weekend in Botswana I decide to make the trip to Lower Zambezi National Park.
It’s a last minute booking and the pickings are slim. In the end I opt to stay just outside of the park at a slightly less expensive accommodation as much for the price as for the days they can offer me. It fits better with the flights I’m able to book as well.
In the end I spend only one day in the park. The rest of the time I visit closer to the lodge, spending one afternoon canoeing down the river to the edge of the park. We see a lot of elephants, including one that stands up on its hind legs to reach the leaves in the trees, one of the symbols of the area.
1.
Arrival and an afternoon on the river.
It’s an early morning start and I arrive at the airport with more than enough time to spare. The driver tells me I needn’t have worried. There’s no traffic and the airport will be empty. There are few flights departing at that hour.
2.
A day in the Lower Zambezi National Park.
For my first full day in the area I’ve arranged to spend the day in the Lower Zambezi National Park.
3.
A day of elephant encounters.
In the morning I’m told there’s something special planned in the evening for the full moon, but that I can’t be told what it is. I’m intrigued.
4.
A canoe trip down the Lower Zambezi and the trip home.
It’s my last day in the Lower Zambezi and I’ve arranged to take a canoe down the river.
