Two weeks in Australia.

After having planned a voyage back to Antarctica, I sought to maximize my time in the area. I had never before been to Australia and decided to spend a few days in Sydney before heading back to Europe and time zones more favorable to my meeting schedule.

I hadn’t originally planned to do much beyond Sydney, but then a cousin convinced me to visit the Great Barrier Reef, and then a friend planted the idea of visiting Uluṟu. And so my original intent to spend a few days in Sydney ballooned into a two-week ‘greatest hits’ tour of eastern Australia.

1.
Arrival in Sydney and an afternoon visit to Manley Beach.

Thanks to Nick I arrive in Sydney in the early evening.

2.
The Sydney coastal walk from Bondi Beach to Coogee.

When I think of Sydney a few things pop into mind: the Sydney Opera House, a flat white, and Bondi Beach.

3.
A night at the Sydney Opera; an afternoon at the Art Gallery of NSW.

One of the last days on the trip to the Ross Sea Leonie asked me what my plans were after the cruise.

4.
Yulara and an introduction to Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park, Australia.

I fly to Yulara from Cairns, where I’ve spent the past two nights in order to snorkel the Great Barrier Reef.

5.
Sunrise and sunset at Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park.ery of NSW.

I’m up and ready by 0500. It’s dark outside and the night is cool. I make my way to reception and stand outside, waiting to be picked up.

6.
Three days in Melbourne.

My flight to Melbourne departs at 09h57. Buses from the resort are scheduled throughout the day to match flight times and I’m on the first.
